Meet Sarah Holloway, Founder of Matcha Maiden and Matcha Mylkbar
April 02 2018
Meet Sarah Holloway - lawyer turned funtrepreneur, Lululemon Australia/NZ ambassador, co-founder of Matcha Maiden and Matcha Mylkbar, based in Melbourne, Australia. We’re in awe of this tea-rific human who radiates with sunny happiness, and devours life with SO much energy, authenticity and positivity. It is contagious and inspiring. Needless to say, we jumped excitedly into bed with her for our latest instalment of "Between the Sheets" to find out more about Sarah's morning rituals.
The Quickies
Coffee/tea
Tea! I haven't had coffee since starting Matcha Maiden a few years ago and my life has never been more tea-rific!
Silk & lace/Cotton
Cotton - I love how cotton feels and breathes.
Snoozer/bounce out-of-bedder
Both, it depends on the day. I'm either a complete sloth or an over-excited road runner!
Early Riser/night owl
Again, both (sometimes at the same time). Life is so exciting, I struggle to let myself sleep sometimes so rising early AND staying up late are far too common in our household!
Books/Netflix
Both, again haha I'm so indecisive! Netflix more regularly - at the end of the day my brain needs to unwind completely so mindless TV is perfect.
Q: What’s the very first thing you do in the morning when you wake up?
A: The first of two twenty Vedic meditations.
Q: Can you describe your morning routine?
A: I get up and meditate then write a few notes in my gratitude journal. I try to do this before I touch my phone and then I'll do a quick check of emails and the calendar to get an idea of what the day holds ahead. I'll get on top of those emails over breakfast, which I eat out almost everyday as it set me up so well and kick-starts the day. Sounds a bit excessive but it's my one indulgence that allows me to pack the days as full as we do and get through it at my best.
Q: What’s the one thing that really gets you out of bed and excited to tackle the day?
A: The realization of potential. Of my own and helping others achieve their own. Life is so wonderful and there are so many opportunities to seize!
Q: Picture your perfect breakfast scenario. Walk me through what you’re eating and where you are.
A: I eat the same thing most days - breakfast is my favourite meal of the day! Poached eggs with roasted garlic mushrooms, avocado, and spinach sometimes with roasted tomatoes. I love to sit outside and eat with the sun hitting my face.
Q: Can you share with glow-getters your top morning skincare rituals that you swear by?
A: I cleanse, tone and moisturize twice every day and then use exfoliants, masks and eye cream every now and then. My top morning skincare tip though is sunscreen!!! Even on days when you don't think you need it, your skin needs protection from the harsh atmosphere so don't forget to apply!
Q: What are your holy grail/must-have skincare products for the morning and why?
A: Sunscreen, moisturizer and lip balm. I can't deal with dry skin or lips, so always have to have both on hand. I also use a light mineral powder to even out my skin tone and provide a bit of coverage, while still letting my skin breathe. And then mascara always makes me feel more alive haha. I keep it simple most days.
Q: What skincare tips do you have for bedtime so your skin is looking its best in the morning?
A: I ALWAYS remove all my make up before I go to sleep and often use a night cream for ultimate replenishment. I also try to stay hydrated throughout the day, as my skin really shows it the next day if I get dehydrated. Getting enough hours of sleep also makes a lot of difference (although I can't say I'm religiously on track with that!)
Q: What’s your top tip on being a morning person?
A: Build a life you can't wait to get up for.
Q: What’s your top tip for practicing self-love?
A: Not feeling guilty for what I know works best for me - regular massages and facials seem a bit indulgent or fancy, but they really are part of my wellbeing routine as much as a GP visit would be. I've learnt over time what helps me operate at the crazy level I seem to be helplessly addicted to, and now I know that, I work them into my life without guilt.
Q: What's your morning mantra or favourite quote?
A: Everything happens for a reason. Or, doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.
About Between the Sheets
Everyone’s got a superpower, and sometimes we forget that our inner strength is at it’s best when you start your day right. Between The Sheets covers those micro-moments of a woman’s day. The aspects of our day that don’t reach the limelight, but that we know are imperative in setting ourselves up for success. Each month, we’ll get into bed with one kick-ass woman and we pillow talk about her habits, rituals and how they help her accomplish her goals.
