2022 AAPI Business Guide
May 11 2022
One of the best ways that you can support the AAPI community is by actively supporting AAPI-owned businesses.
May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and as a proudly AAPI-founded brand, we wanted to take this opportunity to uplift and showcase some of our favorite AAPI-owned businesses.
We are proud of our roots as an AAPI founded and owned business. Read more about Wyld and the brands above on our blog.
COVRY is an inclusive eyewear brand with a focus on comfort and design. As longtime glasses wearers, friends Athina Wang and Florence Shin struggled to find eyewear that fit comfortably. This inspired them to create their signature Elevated Fit® to celebrate faces of all shapes and sizes.
"Growing up Chinese-Filipina-Canadian, it was rare for me to see women who looked like me in beauty campaigns. That's something that is important to our brand - celebrating Asian-Canadian culture and creating an inclusive community, a space for all to heal through ritual."
When diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Métange founder Tanya turned to gua sha (a healing eastern massage technique) as a natural remedy. Inspired by the restorative effects of Traditional Eastern Medicine, the Asian-Canadian brand's gua sha facial massage tools are designed to elevate skincare rituals and transform the at-home self-massage experience, along with representing AAPI faces in their brand.
Meow Meow Tweet is an AAPI, queer-founded B Corp that creates low waste, ethically sourced, and vegan skin and body care. Their refillable and compostable products are always Plastic Negative, Climate Neutral, Leaping Bunny Certified and palm-oil free, designed to minimize plastic consumption; and offered at an accessible price point.
Okko is a bodywear brand rooted in the minimalist values founder Phoebe Kunitomi grew up with. We are on a mission to cut the clutter in your top drawer through versatility, reliability, and comfort. A conscious, anti-fast fashion mentality grounds everything we do because we believe every material possession, down to the base layer, should add value to your life.
Velvette was founded by Joyce and Jenny, two sisters based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. With backgrounds in cosmetic chemistry and accounting, the two were up to the challenge of creating effective, all-natural beauty products to help with our skin concerns.
After researching over 200 different plant oils for their benefits, textures, and performance, Joyce and Jenny have developed a line of face, body, hair oils, and beauty tools that leave you feeling velvety soft!
